SIR – Earlier this year, Bradford was voted the least bike-friendly city in the country.
The tragic fatal accident of a 23-year-old cyclist in Canal Road on September 16 highlights the risks cyclists face on Bradford roads. It is self-evident why the city has such a poor reputation towards the safety of cyclists when we look at the state of the roads.
Manningham Lane’s token cycle lane is a disgraceful example of the disregard that motorists and the enforcement authorities have to cyclist safety.
The so-called cyclist lane along Manningham Lane opposite Lynthorne Road has become nothing more than a semi-permanent car park for the shops opposite.
There is no enforcement and no willingness to take action to prevent these obstructions to the cycle lane.
Isn't it time that Bradford's powers-that-be started taking some responsibility for the city’s reputation and road safety?
