SIR - Readers will have been pleased to see the article about how Bradford Council and West Yorkshire Police are working together to try and stamp out the continuing efforts by poachers to kill animals for sport (T&A, September 11).
It is refreshing to hear about agencies such as these taking an active role in helping persecuted animals and bringing those who flout the law to task.
Since the Hunting Act came into force, many pro-hunting groups have criticised it as being unworkable and ineffective, but your article proves that it is being used to great effect to stop poachers using dogs to hunt deer (in this case) and also to make landowners and farmers responsible for what happens on their land.
If only more councils and police forces would follow the good example being set by Bradford council and West Yorkshire Police. Long may their good work continue.
