SIR – What a good idea from our ward councillors, to hopefully oversee the completion of what has become an absolute debacle, the proposed club house for Queensbury ARLFC Sports Club (T&A, September 16).

More than £560,000 of taxpayers’ money has already been spent but it is nowhere near fit for purpose.

By doing this it would still allow the rugby club access to all the facilities they require, and also open the doors to many other groups within our village and community.

We are aware that funds will be difficult to obtain due to what has gone on so far, the financial climate and council cutbacks, so Councillor Paul Cromie suggested that we appeal to the local tradesmen to offer some of their time free of charge, as labour costs will be a major factor. Any tradesman who does take up the appeal will have the satisfaction of knowing that they have helped with a very worthy cause that will benefit the whole community.

While we are all aware and grateful for the work done by Paul and Linda Cromie on our behalf, I would like to request Mr Cromie take a leading role in this matter. This way, with the support of Councillor Walls, we just might have a chance, sooner than later, of getting this project finished.
