SIR - One of the most extraordinary aspects of the row over who is responsible for dealing with the traffic chaos in Saltaire is the fact that local ward councillors have been excluded from discussions between the Highways Agency and Bradford Council.
Despite the fact we understand the situation as well as anyone and field numerous enquiries from residents about this problem, we still know nothing about the contents of the Highway Agency's confidential study into the impact of the Bingley Relief Road on our neighbourhoods.
As an exercise in local democracy, this is a fiasco. The fact Rachel Adamson's recent petition attracted such huge support only emphasises the need to involve local people in consultations.
How much longer do we have to put up with the rat-running, speeding traffic and roadside pollution that is steadily undermining our quality of life?
The Highways Agency worsened traffic congestion in Saltaire in 2003 when it opened the Bingley Relief Road yet refuses to provide Bradford Council with enough money to deal with the problem.
Shame on them and shame on a government that lacks the political will to deal with rising levels of traffic nationwide.
