SIR - I suppose it was inevitable Bradford Centre Regeneration would ignore the wishes of a large number of Bradfordians and go ahead with the demolition of the Odeon.

So not only have we destroyed a superb example of an art deco building, which ideally complemented the Alhambra, but we have lost, for ever, the opportunity of creating a concert/exhibition hall, which would have lifted Bradford out of the mundane, and enabled us to outclass all other cities in Yorkshire.

Still, I suppose planners who cannot even produce a ring road which actually goes all the way round the city could not be expected to have such vision!

And where has the sudden major involvement of Bradford College appeared from? Who was the genius who decided we wanted a beauty salon and kitchen on Bradford's most prestigious site?

However, let's look on the bright side. At least some sense is prevailing.

Will Alsop's ludicrous "lake" is being scaled down; the ridiculous "urban wetland" has been dumped; the laughable "iconic bridge of learning" has been axed; and the harebrained "mushroom park" has been eliminated.

Hopefully, in the near future, there will be none of his ego-driven fantasies remaining!
