SIR - Reg Nelson really should not assume that the Silent Majority are either hostile or apathetic about the demolition of the old Odeon building (T&A Letters, September 7).
There must be very many like myself who have accepted the decision that has been arrived at and welcome the news that things are going to happen on this site at last.
I feel that many of the objectors have allowed their nostalgia for the heyday of the cinema to blind them to the reality of the building as it now stands.
Stripped of the signage and glamour of the Odeon brand, it now presents as a huge brick box topped off with two rather incongruous domes as decoration.
It dominates the western view from Centenary Square and detracts from the fine facade and roofscape of the Alhambra.
I am hoping that the new development will be completed speedily and that it will improve this part of the city.
