SIR – In response to Brian Holmans’s comment re WR28 Home Guard (T&A, May 19).
We wear medals in order to both remind and educate the public of the sacrifices that members of the Home Guard throughout our country during the years 1940/1944.
My own grandfather, born 1900 and in France facing enemy fire for King and Country, from 1917, went on to volunteer for the HG in 1940. As a member of WR28 HG, I wear his ribbons to remind me and others of his service.
The aims of WR28 HG is as always, to display as a living history group and educate the public about the time and unselfish efforts of the volunteer services when this country was in danger of invasion.
We also constantly try to raise fund for local and nationwide charities. The last so called prank described in your forum as “old geezer gets a haircut” raised with the help of the much appreciated public £3,500 for the Help for Heroes charity.
I rest my case, Mr Holmans.
