SIR – Re the letter by Brian Holmans, ‘Medals were earned’ (T&A, May 19).
Although I don’t wish to be a killjoy, having thoroughly enjoyed the 1940s weekend in Haworth, the authenticity of the medals also crossed my mind when I saw an old man standing quietly wearing several medals.
I said to him, “I bet they are real,” and he said, “Yes. I earned them, every last one.”
I asked him if I could take a picture of the real McCoy. He smiled sweetly, and said yes, and here is the picture.
