SIR – I’m sure most of your readers would like to believe that we can trust David Cameron on the NHS.

Sadly there are at least three reasons for mistrusting him: 1) He promised before the 2010 election there would be no major reorganisation of the NHS, and promptly began one without any democratic support.

2) To save money, which is alleged to be his reason now, he would increase resources in community, avoid expensive admissions to hospital, and speed up discharges (This especially applies to elderly people who make up 75 per cent of NHS spending). In fact Cameron and Eric Pickles are cutting community resources for elderly and children by enforcing local authority cuts. Either this is a mess or deliberate.

3) One of Cameron’s ‘kitchen cabinet’, Mark Britnell, head of KPMG on health, has told heads of private heathcare firms in the USA that there would be plenty of profit in the UK.

The NHS would become an insurance provider, not running hospitals or other services. “The NHS will be shown no mercy and the best time to take advantage of this will be in the next two years”, says Mr Cameron’s expert adviser.

Will either Hopkins, Davies, Julian Smith or another Tory MP explain?
