SIR – Re your story about on-kerb parking near a school (T&A, May 12). It is wrong for cars to park on the kerb, but I wish Mrs Shears had not used the red herring of motorists using the road rather than be stuck in traffic on Tong Street, and again I object to the use of the much bandied ‘rat-racers’.
Motorists driving carefully are not the danger to children; it is the parked cars, and, perhaps, some belong to parents driving their children to school.
I shouldn’t be surprised if Mrs Spears has, or has been, driven down minor roads to avoid congestion on a major one – we all do it, but we don’t all drive carefully enough.
