SIR – Four out of the six salon owners in Thornton were not aware of the planning notice printed in the T&A for a new hair salon. I buy the T&A every day and didn’t see it!
When making enquiries to the planning office I was told notices would have been placed on available posts but none have been seen! Thornton is a very small village and we would have been told about any proposals as soon as they were posted.
Thornton village does not need another hair salon, beauty salon or fast food takeaway – it has more than its fair share.
To ask for a house in a conservation area to be converted to a hair salon when there are already six salons in close proximity seems ludicrous, especially as there are several empty shops in the village.
Parking is already a major problem for residents and businesses in Thornton and in particular this area of the village next to South Square.
A new salon will not bring any new business into the area, only dilute the business of the existing ones and have for some a possible grave impact.
With the economic climate being as it is people have cut back on spending at hair and beauty salons.
I sincerely hope common sense will prevail.
