SIR – Having read the article about St James’s Wholesale Market (T&A, May 5) can I remind Colin Wolstenholme, markets manager with Bradford Council, that retail customers visiting the market to buy the produce have to pay for the privilege to do so.
A set annual tariff is in place for businesses to pay in exchange for a pass to gain access to the market, therefore adding extra income.
I would like to know if this extra income used to make improvements to the market, or just added to the Councils coffers?
I would also like to know if other markets around the country charge their customers to get into them?
