SIR – So at last the SNP have got a majority in the Scottish Parliament, and they are already talking about a referendum on independence.

Please let the Scots vote to accept the motion so that we can get the Barnett Formula off of our English backs and so that tax paid by the English goes into English pockets, and let the Scots, Welsh, and Northern Irish finance themselves.

After all, they have their own assemblies, parliaments, and whatever, and only we, the English, do not have the right to self-government.
