SIR – The decision to award the non-executive directors at Airedale Hospital pay increases in excess of 100 per cent, smacks of the hypocrisy and contempt we’ve come to expect from the bosses in relation to their staff.
This scandalous decision is being made while staff at the hospital are having to endure redundancies (with the loss of at least 80 jobs), pay freezes and car-parking increases.
It should be remembered that the non-executive directors at Airedale are not employees of the Trust, but get remuneration for their time (which in some cases is a few hours a week) and role on the Board. At the same time, all of them have other professions, business or other directorships, for which they get paid.
It’s not hard to conclude that, when it comes to the need to make savings and tighten belts, the Airedale Trust Board feel that this only applies to staff and not themselves.
But then, ‘we are all in this together’ – yeah, right.
