SIR – Just recently it was announced that John Sullivan, creator and writer of Only Fools And Horses, had died at the age of 64.
Fools And Horses ran from 1981 to 2003 and in 1996 it attracted an amazing 24.3 million viewers for one episode.
Who can forget Del Boy, Rodney, Boycie, Marlene, Trigger and Uncle Albert? We still see re-runs on television, which attract a strong following.
As a comedy writer, John Sullivan had the gift of turning everyday life and characters into comedy. What about the time Del Boy fell through the bar or when Del and Rodney arrived as Batman and Robin at a funeral gathering?
He also wrote Just Good Friends, which was a major hit following Penny and Vincent and their on/off romance.
We should be thankful for what John Sullivan gave us, and for that matter, still does, with so much to laugh about.
A good laugh makes everyone feel much better, particularly in times when there seems to be so little to laugh about. I am sure I join millions when I say, thanks John.
