It is good to know that a little piece of Bradford will have its place in today’s Royal Wedding celebrations.
The newlyweds will, of course, be receiving many gifts from all corners of the world.
But with the clothing that they have been made from wool spun and dyed by Bradford company Bulmer & Lumb, William and Kate will have more than just a trinket to remind them of their big day.
In every stitch of their Savile Row-tailored suits they will carry with them the rich industrial heritage that is rightly such cause for pride in Bradford.
The city was built upon wool and although it is no longer the industrial powerhouse that it once was, that heritage can never be taken away from Bradford.
The cloth crafted in Bradford is also a reminder that the city’s economic aspirations cannot be consigned to the dustbin of history.
Times are tough all over, of course, but as long as companies such as Bulmer & Lumb continue to make Bradford a watchword for quality and industry, then there is yet hope that regeneration and recovery will result in great days again.
So we wish William and Kate all the best, and hope that married life suits them as well as their honeymoon clothes made in Bradford.
