SIR – I have been thinking about the future of the old Odeon Cinema. There is no way Bradford Council will allow it to remain.
Look at its track record over the years, it has wreaked havoc all over the city – Horton Old Hall, replaced by a car park; the Mechanics Institute replaced by a concrete block; the now-demolished Kirkgate Market replaced by a concrete bunker; Swan Arcade replaced by a concrete block.
Look online, the list is endless, beautiful buildings demolished in the name of progress.
I have to agree with Keith Thomson (T&A, April 6) in his comments regarding the relentless changing of our city.
There are fine, solid, stone buildings which are still usable, and could be refurbished at a fraction of the cost of a new building and with less impact on the environment.
