SIR – I read the contribution from your talented feature writer Helen Mead (T&A, April 11) headlined Pampering My Beloved Gordon.
I read selected passages from the article to my wife, including the one about him having dental treatment. Helen says she has benefited as she now snuggles up to him and showers him with kisses.
I asked my wife what she thought of this, and she said Helen must really love her husband. Just a minute, I said, she is not talking about her husband, Gordon is her cat! I almost feel sorry for Helen’s husband as it looks as though he is competing with Gordon, the cat, for his wife’s affections.
However, cat or no cat, he must surely be Helen’s number one, at least I hope so.
When I come to think about this, Helen’s husband and I may have something in common. I may have faced a similar situation but with our cat, as you can imagine, I wouldn’t dare say so.
