SIR – I wonder if I am the only one to feel outraged by the greed of insurance companies in their attempts to take full advantage of the law which says that it is compulsory for one to be insured when one is in possession of a car.
We are being led to believe that year-on-year increases of 100 per cent on car insurance premiums for those in certain postcodes are due to fraudulent personal injury claims which insurance companies are powerless to prevent.
It is no surprise that targeted postcodes just happen to be inner-city areas inhabited by largely Asian communities that are the least likely to complain of excessive premiums and unfair treatment.
Why should I be required to pay a 100 per cent increase on my insurance premium just because the insurance company thinks another Asian living in the same area has made a fraudulent personal injury claim, and that as an Asian living in the same postcode that I would do the same?
After another year of claim-free driving, my insurance company has increased my premium by 100 per cent.
Car insurance for so long was only meant as a means of insuring one’s car and others in case of serious loss, and not as a means of allowing multiple injury claims. I for one have decided that walking is the best option, but how long before certain postcodes become car-free zones?
