SIR – I am writing in response to Councillor John Cole’s letter where he attacks the Labour Party and supports his Lib Dem colleague’s campaign to keep Wrose Library open (T&A, April 7).
I can fully appreciate why he is ‘sticking up’ for his colleague, but let us not pretend this campaign is anything more than Lib Dem electioneering.
To pick and choose which parts of the budget you campaign on is, in my opinion, dishonorable.
Councillor Watmough voted for the closure of the library and is now campaigning to keep it open. The electorate is fed up with politicians sitting on both sides of the fence.
It was with a heavy heart that the Labour group in Bradford had to propose a budget which made £56 million worth of cuts to local services, including Wrose Library.
Can I remind him that the cuts were only of this magnitude because his national Tory and Lib Dem MPs imposed these unnecessarily draconian cuts on the nation?
Councillor Vanda Greenwood (Labour, Windhill & Wrose), City Hall, Bradford
