SIR – News that Bradford’s regeneration hopes have been dealt a major blow after a £35 million bid for cash was ‘thrown out’ (T&A, April 13) begs all sorts of questions.
What is Councillor Greenwood going to do with the £17.5m of ratepayers’ money he allocated to give priority to the scheme?
According to Council minutes, the Business Forest was integral to the pool/park scheme for them to realise their economic potential.
Are we then to presume the pool/park will now fall short of its much-vaunted and ridiculously expensive benefit to the city?
As money for a new one has been denied, will we definitely be keeping the perfectly adequate Magistrates Court?
Will the Council now secure the route for Crossrail, pending the decision of the people of Bradford and not time-serving Council planners and consultants as to whether we want it?
I reckon this is the final straw and the planners regeneration house of cards has completely collapsed. The dismissal of those who have done Bradford’s regeneration such a disservice is now necessary for realism to reign again.
I wonder which councillor will have the courage to raise his head above the parapet and instigate the move to make the Council’s senior planners pay for their ineptitude with their jobs.
As they have achieved nothing, we will not miss them and the money saved can be put to better use.
