SIR – The story regarding the report which revealed that many motorists show little or no respect when a funeral procession is on the road (T&A, April 4) is true to life.
I work occasionally for a family-run undertakers and quite often, when driving the hearse or one of the limos, people pass at breakneck speed to get in front or cut up the procession.
I wish people would realise that, on most occasions, family members following the hearse have no idea of how to get to the cemetery or church. If cut off, they may miss the service or burial of a member of their family.
May I therefore appeal to all drivers to allow cars to keep in line and be patient – one day it may be a member of their family or themselves, and I’m sure they would wish for a bit of respect at such a sad time.
