SIR – Baroness Warsi claimed in a speech at Leicester University last week that Islamophobia was now so widespread it had become the norm in many parts of Britain (T&A, January 21).
Although Warsi said Muslims must do more to integrate and become more outspoken against Muslim extremists and acts of terrorism, she offered no reasons as to why Muslims aren’t doing this already.
Nor did she offer any explanations as to why various polls show 40 per cent of young Muslims want to see Sharia law introduced here in Britain; why 36 per cent think apostates should be killed, with 13 per cent saying they ‘admired’ Al Qaeda.
And, just a few weeks ago, it was revealed that between 450 and 500 jihadists were being watched by MI5, with around 200 networks and 30 plots being monitored, and up to 2,000 being tracked for suspected links to terrorism.
Instead of blaming non-Muslims for ‘Islamophobia’. Warsi should ask herself why so many Muslims support militant Islam, and why phobia-like feelings exist towards Muslims, but not towards other minority faith groups such as Hindus, Sikhs or Jews.
