SIR – Some time ago, Asda bought out one of its competitors and acquired 200 Netto stores, but an officer for fair trade has stepped in to say that some of the stores should be sold to rivals like Morrisons and Tescos for a fairer competition.
A few years ago, Morrisons pulled out of Laisterdyke to great protest of its residents and 3,000 people signed a petition to keep a supermarket. With the acquisition of Netto’s superstores, will Morrisons invest in a Laisterdyke superstore again?
With being on the ring road, many people have been left out in the cold, having to travel to Bradford Moor, city centre, or Girlington to shop at a Morrisons or an Asda at Rooley Lane.
All this costs money in taxi and bus fares for people on a low income and an area that has a high unemployment. It’s time to invest in Laisterdyke again.
Managers from Morrisons and other business leaders had a meeting with PM David Cameron the other week in Bradford to create new jobs in the city, so let Laisterdyke have a Morrisons supermarket again and new jobs. After all, the place is right on the ring road to the motorways. What does that tell you?
