Sir – Arthur Normington claims to be pragmatic (Letters, January 17). He does not smoke and does not care if pubs close because of the smoking ban (Letters, January 13).
I have smoked for 57 years. Since I cannot have a drink, a smoke and a chat in a pub, I, like many people, have made other arrangements. A whole industry is collapsing because many customers feel unwelcome, and our trade goes with us.
Why cannot Mr Normington enjoy his chosen environment and leave us to choose ours?
