SIR – It is hoped that the upcoming City Park will help to boost the regeneration of the city centre, especially since several other significant schemes have hit the buffers.
The park will help frame more positively the city’s cultural attractions – the National Media Museum, Alhambra Theatre and Centenary Square galleries.
It may be that the cultural side of Bradford could be added to and help create a much bigger draw for visitors.
If the park is used to host a regular calendar of events, we may see rock concerts, jazz festivals or ice skating, etc. This would attract many people into the centre and encourage them to spend their leisure time here.
This may bring about an increase in coffee shops and restaurants. The space at the bottom of Ivegate has several vacant properties and lends itself to being a ‘cafe quarter’ and perhaps a roof structure could be erected to provide shelter for outdoor seating. This may also help rejuvenate Market Street.
We should be positive about the City Park and hope it makes a positive contribution towards the regeneration of our city.
