Challenging Philip Davies to an open debate on prison occupancy (T&A, January 19), John Cole says the £40,000 spent on every inmate each year could be better spent.
He should be asking why it costs this amount. Is it TVs, choice of menu and other perks, or do a mattress, porridge for breakfast, soup for lunch and stew for an evening meal cost that much?
I have no time for Cameron and even less for Cole’s man Clegg, but I do have time for Philip Davies, who, perhaps unlike Cole, speaks his mind often against the Party line.
