SIR – As we look back on 2010, and perhaps particularly December, we must have mixed thoughts, and reactions.
The children, by and large, love the snow and ice and the elderly remember when they felt the same delights of the children, but not any more.
For many people, December was a very dark month, with the elderly virtual prisoners in their own homes – but there was the light of Christmas.
This is a time of religious significance, a time of eager anticipation for the young and still a time for the elderly to delight in the memories of Christmas past.
Only a couple of days ago, I met an elderly couple, who for almost a month had been waiting to escape their four walls and enjoy a very short spell of winter sunshine.
I know it gets dark so early these days, but at seven o’clock in the evening, I, and I guess millions of others, also saw sunshine in the form of the Morecambe and Wise Christmas Show of 1977.
Who will forget the warmth they brought to millions? And thanks to TV archives, they still do.
