SIR – How refreshing to see the article by Jim Greenhalf on David Ison, the Dean of Bradford Cathedral, and the 400th anniversary of the King James version of the Bible (T&A, January 3).
Many local Christians will echo the Dean’s desire for many of us to reach out to the unchurched, but the Bible is not merely a means to this end.
More importantly, it is to put them, individually, in touch with the risen Christ, The church generally seems unwilling publicly to promote this basic aspect of the gospels.
Jesus himself said: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14 v6).
So individual believers will have an opportunity to utilise this historic year.
