SIR – It’s all very well Councillor Khaliq urging people to recycle (T&A, January 3), but that is not just the problem.
When are the companies going to take responsibility for their part in cutting back on waste?
Some large cardboard boxes, for example, do not justify the contents, and mislead the consumer into believing that the price justifies the size.
Supermarkets continue to give out plastic carrier bags whether the person needs them or not.
Over the Christmas period, many recycling areas were overflowing with glass and plastic, which just reflects that people do recycle, but are let down by the lack of collections made.
When rubbish is collected from the street bins, it is not separated by the person collecting it, so how can the Council expect people to do the right thing when the Council is not promoting recycling and leading by example?
