SIR – I read with some interest the item ‘£235,000 wasted on school plans’ (T&A, December 30) in which it refers to the costs, so far, on the development of the proposed new Ilkley Grammar School.
I wondered if I was missing something here, as within the article it mentions £97,000 in architects’ fees.
There have been many objections to this school being built where proposed, and various meetings have been held locally to discuss this matter with the public.
This is where I wonder if I have missed something, for I do not recall the matter being finalised against the local objectors, meaning that the building must still be in doubt.
So if it was in doubt, why was the money spent on architects’ fees, for a building that may never take place?
The only conclusion that I can come to, taking that facts as they are, is that the issue was never in doubt, and the meetings were just a con to make it look like local views were being sought.
