SIR – I am pleased to hear cycling has got a boost in the Bradford district to encourage the youth of today into cycling, to encourage a healthy lifestyle and to enjoy the countryside.

I have been a cyclist for some years since school and still out there – only just.

The motorists of today have no respect for other road-users, always cutting you up or passing you then turning left straight in front of you. I have had many a close call.

As for roundabouts, well they are ‘no-go zones’ for me. You have got to think which way the cars are going to turn, as they don’t signal or stop. And I’ve seen many people negotiating a roundabout while on a mobile phone.

Once I went on an early morning ride to Eldwick through to Guiseley and Shipley. I got onto Manningham Lane just past Asda at 8.30am and could not believe the traffic – it was nose-to-tail all the way along to Lister Park.

On the stretch of road, I met one other cyclist and three going the opposite way. In my opinion, four wheels rule the roads of today, I am afraid.
