SIR – On behalf of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Bradford, I would like to extend the warmest congratulations to the Right Reverend Nick Baines, who has been appointed as the new Bishop of Bradford (T&A, December 17).
Faith groups play such an important role in this city and district of ours, and I hope the new Bishop will be able to build on the excellent work that has been done by the out-going Bishop, the Right Reverend David James, and others, and ensure the Diocese in Bradford goes from strength to strength.
Bradford is a multi-faith, culturally diverse city, and within this the Bishops office and the churches have a lot to offer, especially in building bridges between different faith groups.
While we can choose to differ about some of our core beliefs and cultural tradition, there is so much that we have in common, and there is so much that we can learn from each other.
I do hope the new Bishop of Bradford will work with us all to build bridges and keep faith alive in this city and the rest of the world.
Best wishes for the New Year to all the readers of the T&A.
Dr Mohammed Iqbal, President, Ahmadiyya Muslim Association, Bradford
