SIR – Why is it that our education bureaucrats can turn one of the best schools in Bradford for decades and put them into special measures (T&A, December 16)?
Hanson, sadly, has been hard done by in one respect by changing the catchment area for this school because others around it were failing.
Having worked there for five fantastic years as grounds manager, the long discussions I had with members of staff and the way the school was going mostly stemmed from this period.
We come back to the same old story. All the schools in the country have the facilities and technology for the kids to have a good grounding for their life after school, but until the kids learn respect for these professionals who are there to help them, whatever degree of intelligence a kid has, nothing will change.
There are dozens of excellent staff at Hanson and I wish them every success in their present position. I know that they will succeed – I only wish I was there to do my bit.
