SIR – Re Andrew Mawson’s letter “Why single out books?” (T&A, December 8).
What Conservative MP Philip Davies did say, referring to Bradford Council allowing children’s books in Urdu to be available in libraries around the district, was “the policy did nothing to improve community relations or encourage integration”.
I would like to repeat all the good points of Mr Davies in the article, but unfortunately my letter would be too long to print.
By the way, Mr Mawson, we don’t teach our nursery children Latin for their first language. English is their first language.
Communication is very important at such an early age, and I never have been against learning a second language or more.
