SIR – While it is easy to understand anti-war sentiments in general, the call for the immediate withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan at last month’s Stop The War Coalition demonstration in London organised by Far Leftists and supported by Labour and Lib Dem allies is misguided.
One of the main speakers at the rally, John Hilary, demanded “the immediate withdrawal of British troops and justice for the people of Afghanistan”.
Quite how he proposes “justice” can be achieved with the Taliban actively using indiscriminate terror isn’t clear.
This demonstrates once again the sheer bankruptcy of leftist forces happy enough to come up with catchy slogans without offering any solutions, especially for the people of Afghanistan.
Troop withdrawal now would see the return of the Taliban and Afghans would again be forced to live under 7th-century medievalism along with a safe haven for Al Qaeda that existed prior to 2001 and the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America.
Most people wish for world peace, but there’s little hope of this happening while Islamist terrorists are waging global jihad against the West and those Muslim states reluctant to impose Sharia Law.
