SIR – Further to the excellent letter written by Bryan Owram (T&A, November 18) and the subsequent criticism of him by Jamie Wroe (T&A, November 20) for what the latter perceives to be a flippant reference to Hitler and the Nazis.

Jamie Wroe admits he doesn’t know the ins and outs of the debate, but gives his opinion. The fact is that the original writer on this subject, Mr Graham Berry, was not promoting human rights, but was defending the gross misconduct of a sacked RSPCA worker and giving readers the benefit of his objectionable views on how animals should be treated; that merely being animals renders them undeserving of any sort of respect.

Not only do I agree with Bryan Owram’s analogy, but would also point out the similarity of thought with that which once upheld the slave trade and allowed it to flourish.
