SIR – I note that following the debacle of the betrayal of the British people by Labour, a certain David Cameron guaranteed the voting public of this once-proud Union we would have a referendum on whether we should, or should not, remain in the cesspit of corruption known as the European Union.

He did slip in a caveat, or get-out clause, depending upon how one views his guarantee, that said only if it had not been ratified. He did also state that a referendum would be held if any major changes were proposed.

We then find that major changes are proposed and he, the same David Cameron, goes off to do battle vowing not to give an inch.

He then meekly agrees to an increase of 2.9 per cent in our annual payment to the EU, and for good measure hands over control of our defences to the French.

I believe that our MPs are voted into Parliament to represent the views of their constituents, ie people like you and me.

Why, therefore, when 70 per cent of the British electorate do not wish to be in the EU, are we still in? Are the MPs deaf or are we daft?
