SIR – Instead of letting her mind go off at a tangent and describing Citygate a monstrosity (T&A, July 29), Mrs D Rhodes should take a look at an artists glossy impression of the structure or better still a scale model. It looks awesome, not awful.
Every project like this is a bit speculative but as Alan Hall, chairman of Bradford Civic Society remarked: “A bit of risk-taking to get things going is not a bad thing.”
The Empire State Building in New York was not without its critics when it was erected in 1930 as the tallest building in the world, nor was the superstructure which now towers above Dubai.
Citygate would be a magnificent sight to behold by the discerning aesthete.
