SIR – I’m writing in reference to a recent article about our local councillor, Rizwan Malik, and some of his business-related issues.
I have been a resident of Heaton for six years, and must say, on the many occasions I have either requested to speak to Councillor Malik or have asked something of him, he has always been more than happy to help. In fact, I would say he has gone out of his way to help.
I was really disappointed with the article and really do feel that when he is due to stand for re-election very soon, it is both bad timing and in bad taste, especially when it is connected to his personal business dealings and not Council work.
I think that this community needs more Councillors such as Councillor Malik – young, forward thinking and energetic. He seems to have a true passion when it comes to issues relating to this ward and I feel that people should consider his work of the past few years.
