SIR – How refreshing to read such a positive story about a young person who has been in care (T&A, July 26).
Sabrina Norfolk’s triumph in overcoming her difficult childhood is a credit to her.
Can I also thank your paper for giving it such good coverage.
Very often, children in care and young people who have left care are presented in a very negative way in the mass media.
As the secretary of a national charity that is run by and for adult care leavers (The Care Leavers’ Association), I am used to seeing very unpleasant stereotypes of children in care and care leavers.
Having such a positive and inspiring story in your paper will, I know, encourage other young people who have been in care to feel a little bit better about themselves.
Many of them need such encouragement. Sabrina was obviously helped by having a very good foster carer. If all children in care are given the support they need and deserve then they can show all of us their amazing resilience and abilities, just as Sabrina has done.
