SIR – I have just received a glossy regeneration brochure about Bradford and I have to say I was really impressed, even though it was printed in London.
Unfortunately, I didn’t recognise my home town in it. How I wish the glossy PR images in this brochure of Bradford were true.
There didn’t seem to be any images of all the empty, boarded-up shops or the hole in the ground.
The Council’s answer to the hole is to spend £300,000 on grassing the area. I work for a housing association and we are constantly asked to demonstrate value for money in our service provision for our customers. How on earth is this money accounted for in Bradford?
The frightening thing about the coalition Government is they advocate putting more decisions about local issues in the hands of local councils. How on earth is that going to happen in Bradford when the local councillors let the city centre be demolished without provision for the future?
Last Wednesday’s Telegraph & Argus asked, 'Is Bradford on the up again?’. How I wish that were true.
