SIR – We are very interested to read Steve Schofield’s letter (T&A, July 22) concerning the property dealings of Heaton Councillor Rizwan Malik.
Indeed, the people of Heaton deserve better than to be represented by him.
As long standing residents of Heaton, we endorse 100 per cent Mr Schofield’s view that Coun Malik must consider his position seriously and resign immediately from representing the people of Heaton.
If he fails to do that then Coun Ian Greenwood, Leader of the Labour Party, must display courage and foresight and expel him from the party.
We do appreciate, of course, that he will have to wait till the ‘investigation of the matter’ announced by him (Coun Greenwood) has been completed by the Chief Whip of the Labour Party.
Let us hope that the investigation is not used as a ploy to save Coun Malik’s skin.
