SIR – What a depressing article (T&A, July 16) about the campaign for a cross-city rail link, in which Barra Mac Ruairi, the Council’s Regeneration Chief, stated that, while the scheme was feasible, it was too expensive and that priority must be given to other projects.
If this is the attitude of the Director of Regeneration, then no wonder that nothing is ever achieved in Bradford.
A cross-city rail link would, in my view, do far more for the regeneration of our city than any other proposal. One accepts, of course, that in the current economic climate it is not affordable.
However, this will not be the case forever, and it is therefore imperative that the suggested route is protected so that when things improve – as they eventually will – this plan can be put into effect.
Stop being so negative, Mr Mac Ruairi. If that is the best that you can do, then one has to question just what you and your extremely large department are really doing for the benefit of our city.
