SIR – I thank Mr Rhodes (T&A, July 19) for upgrading my limited intellect concerning Government quangos. Usually, from my view, when pen contacts paper, there is a point, or points, to be made.

In our society, we have, to coin a phrase, too many chiefs and not enough indians. Society needs and demands a radical change if it is to continue.

Many attempts at Utopia have been tried and tested in different societies over the years. The nearest that has been achieved is Communism.

In Communism, all are equal, but unfortunately, due to human greed, some are more ‘equal’ than others.

It is the fact that in society, due to technology and mechanisation, there is not enough work to go round.

I could help matters by gathering up the neighbours on a daily basis and have them performing star jumps out on the street, I could call myself a ‘star jumps co-ordination officer’, put on a shiny suit and tie and award myself £100,000 per year salary. It wouldn’t help though, would it?
