SIR – Last week, I attended the Bradford District Regeneration Summit, much of which was concerned with transport issues within the Leeds City Region, of which, it seems, Bradford is now a part.

The summit took place at the brand-new Leeds City College, Keighley.

Over coffee, a participant told me of a rumour that the new owners of Leeds-Bradford Airport might soon rename it Leeds International.

Another informed me that our own Saltaire is often described on tourism websites as one of the jewels of Leeds!

Putting these various bits together might well reinforce a view that Bradford has become little more than an annexe of our more successful neighbour.

Clearly our city urgently needs something to help it emerge from the shadow of Leeds.

The City Park might do the trick, who knows? A better catalyst, in my view, would be a revamped Odeon and a cross-rail link incorporating a railway station worthy of the major city which Bradford could once more become, provided we can rediscover some of the self-assurance and entrepreneurial boldness that in the past made our city world-class.
