SIR – Re ‘Cross-rail link for Bradford too expensive’ (T&A, July 16).

I read recently that a cross-Thames link is being considered in London using cable cars.

They travel at a respectable 20mph and would be much less expensive than a cross-city rail link between Forster Square and the Interchange stations, while “showing off” the city centre.

Of course, you would lose the advantage of through trains, but that would surely be better than no link at all.
