SIR – Re a Bradford cross-rail link, should the stations be linked?

Well, firstly, they should have been linked years ago. Secondly, it would improve the performance and the appeal of the city greatly.

In the future, people will be encouraged not to use cars, but public transport. Not just because of the roads clogging up, but because it is environmentally-friendly to use the railway.

A cross link would be looking to the future and our children and grandchildren would inherit this forward-thinking and get benefits for years to come. It would be a legacy to be proud of.

The Westfield development is a fantastic opportunity to amalgamate the shopping centre with Bradford Central Railway.

People from all over would be able to get off the train indoors, away from any bad weather. There could be a bus-stop inside the station, too.

And there hasn’t even been a mention of benefits of rail freight which is tremendous for the environment as well.

This is, indeed, a chance not just in one lifetime, but many lifetimes. Has Bradford got what it takes? It will not pass this way again.
