SIR – The great songwriter and poet Bob Dylan once said: “If a man can get up in the morning, do what he wants all day, then go to bed at night, then he’s a success.”

More and more people are believing this, with less incentive to work for a poor day’s pay, half being swallowed up by one tax or another.

Much was wasted by the last regime trying their hand at ‘governing’, and more supporting the millions who are afraid of work.

Moreover, disillusionment is caused by the mockingly-high monies being showered on people who don’t seem to be doing much for their gains.

Gordon Brown’s stewardship of the economy has been a disaster, with him seemingly more interested in spin, half-truths and massaged statistics on almost everything.

If he was as close to the Scottish Presbyterian Church as he liked to make out, all I can say is that he was not a good advert for it!
