SIR – Sunday, July 3, saw a breathtaking kickboxing event in Queensbury.
Villagers had been looking forward to it and turned up in their finery – the beautiful young girls of Queensbury could certainly show the celebrity wags a thing or two.
As one of 20 pensioners attending, I thought it was great value for money. I am certainly looking forward to the next one which is planned for December.
Brothers Tony and Wayne Close are from the tight-knit community of Queensbury and proud of their village.
They put on the event in the Legend’s Gym within the Black Dyke Mills complex.
Although the kickboxing club has only been going for four months, more than 200 spectators of all ages turned out to support it.
It was an impressive sporting event and there was no trouble at all.
I was disappointed to learn that Bradford funding agencies had once again failed to sponsor a Queensbury event.
The evening was only able to proceed because Karen Holland of Legend’s Gym bought the ring and other essential equipment.
This event was professionally-run and was a credit to Queensbury and the Close brothers.
